Know About Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary

Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1972 and stands as one of the oldest preserved spots in this region of Uttar Pradesh, India in district Lakhimpur Kehri to protect swamp deer that is known as Barasingha. It joined and became part of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve under Project Tiger in 1987. While it was set up to shield the endangered swamp deer (barasingha), it has grown into an essential haven attracting Royal Bengal tigers, leopards, wild boars, 5 types of deer species, birds, and several other wildlife species. Kishanpur feels special because of its untouched and natural atmosphere.

Kishanpur spreads across 227 square kilometers near towns such as Mailani, Bhira, and Palia. Dense sal forests surround the area, along with grasslands, wetlands, and marshes. These habitats draw all kinds of animals and birds. Rivers and water bodies flow through the sanctuary. This creates a healthy ecosystem where nature sets the tone.

Conservation Efforts on Site at Kishanpur

Kishanpur helps protect the wildlife found in the Terai region. The forest department, along with local people and conservation teams, works hard every day to keep this sanctuary protected. This sanctuary is a part of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve in the Tarai region, has as its most important asset biodiversity.
